Dear Parents: Welcome to our 2010-11 Scouting year. We finished out the 2009-10 year with a highly successful and challenging summer camp experience at Camp Waubeeka where the weather was great, the experiences memorable and many goals accomplished. As with every new Scouting year, there is a new mix of youth leadership excited about the opportunity to keep the long tradition of Troop 42 moving along. The boys, with guidance from the adult leadership, have put together a plan that we hope will lead to an exciting and fun year for everyone. Our goals are to continue the year round camping tradition, have fun, help every Scout learn skills, advance and develop leadership qualities in their own way. A final goal is to make memories. The best way to do this is for your son to fully participate in our outdoor and camping program. This year our Troop is organized into seven patrols with six to nine Scouts per patrol that are led by their Patrol Leaders. The patrol of the “Senior” Scouts will be assisting them to achieve their patrol goals. This will provide a framework to pass on scouting skills to the younger scouts in their patrols while allowing them to feel comfortable and move through the program at their own pace. Patrol Leaders will emphasize learning by example, in a positive environment. Plans are already underway for the 2011 Family Campout and a return to Assateague State Park in Maryland for Summer Camp 2011. The Troop Committee is dedicated to following the guidelines set forth by our local Boy Scout council, Connecticut Yankee Council, and the national scout organization. As adult leaders we are committed to provide an active outdoor program for your sons with qualified supervision and structured discipline. As Scoutmaster and Committee Chairman, our goals are to oversee the safety of everyone and the general direction of the Troop’s overall program as set forth by the Scout Oath and Law. It is our pleasure to serve as Scoutmaster and Committee Chairman for your sons in the coming year. Please visit the Troop’s website at http://nftroop42.org for updates and other information as the year progresses. The first troop meeting, and subsequent parent's meeting will be on Wednesday September 8, 2010. We encourage all families to have at least one parent in attendance. Yours in Scouting, Steve Huntley Doug DorseyScoutmaster Troop Committee Chair |
